Choosing the right tool for your project
Whether you crochet or knit, you will find that there are always options for your hooks and knitting needles. Some projects call for a range of sizes to be used and some yarns seem to be easier to work with when you use a tool made from a particular material. For example, yarns with a halo, such as mohair or angora, can be easier to craft with when using a hook or knitting needle made from timber, as the tool “grips” the yarn. Cottons and wools can seem to be easier to use when a metal hook or knitting needle is involved. It is also another personal preference.
With respect to knitting, we have a range of knitting needles which can be used. We have Clover Bamboo Takumi knitting needles, Knit Pro Basix straight needles and Knit Pro Zing Straight and Fixed Circular needles. For those who prefer the one of the highest quality brands, we also stock ChiaoGoo circular needles. The decision on whether to use circular or straight needles can be dependent on the project or even be an ergonomic choice. When knitting with circular needles, for example, I find that it causes less fatigue in my shoulders than when I use straight needles.
For those who crochet, we have ergonomic choices as well – Knit Pro Gold and Waves Soft Grip Crochet hooks both have a handle with a grip, which also helps the fatigue in your hands. Otherwise, the range of Knit Pro Ginger hooks, for those who prefer natural timber and straight hooks, is also available. Knit Pro Symfonie Interchangeable Afghan Hooks are also stocked and these can be paired with interchangeable cables for Tunisian crochet and large blankets.
